From investment casting to 3D printing: the history of Omega Microfusioni

1997: the beginnings with silver investment casting

With a strong awareness and experience in the gold sector, Claudio Modesti founded Omega Microfusioni, specialising in silver microcasting. From a small workshop a reality dedicated to precision and high quality was born, laying the foundations to become a reference point in the sector. Passion and attention to detail guide every stage of the work, winning the trust of the first customers.

2001-2002: the introduction of bronze and brass

Faced with the crisis in the gold sector, Claudio is not discouraged: he takes advantage of this moment to test and experiment with new materials. He thus began to perform micro-castings in bronze and brass, opening up his business to new sectors and applications.

2012: investment casting meets the fashion industry

The fashion world is approaching investment casting and the first orders are arriving from a hitherto unknown sector. The business grows and so does the number of employees. Omega immediately gains the trust of the most important brands in the sector, thanks to the experience and know-how acquired over the years.

2015: the innovation of 3D printing

New, young people joined the company and immediately decided to focus on innovation by introducing the first plastic and resin 3D printers. This new technology allowed the prototyping service to be carried out in-house and production times to be optimised.

2020: 3D printing of waxes

The world seems to stand still because of Covid, but Omega Microfusioni does not stand still: the first wax 3D printer is purchased that optimises the production time of the waxes used for investment casting, transforming a process that was completely manual into digital.

1. Project analysis and optimisation

Starting with the customer's 3D file or a physical sample, we carefully analyse the design to check that it is suitable for production. If necessary, we make optimisations to adapt it to the 3D printing or investment casting process, ensuring that every detail is perfectly executable and in line with your requirements.

2: Creation of Waxes

Once the design is approved, we move on to wax production. Depending on the customer's needs and the type of accessory or component to be made, we choose the method of wax production.

Wax creation from rubber moulds

For the production of large numbers of accessories, we make matrices and rubber moulds. The creation of waxes is done using either automatic or manual injectors, depending on project specifications. This process is performed by experienced waxers who guarantee the highest quality and attention to detail.

Lost wax printing with 3D technology

When there are only a few pieces to be made and maximum precision is required, we can proceed with direct wax printing using 3D technology. We carefully monitor the print job and take care of the printed waxes down to the smallest detail to ensure a perfect die for investment casting.

3: Casting and Shaft Assembly

To ensure uniform and precise casting, the waxes or moulded patterns are manually assembled on a shaft. For investment casting, we use high-quality metals such as brass, bronze or silver. The casting process follows strict standards to ensure excellent results with attention to detail.

4: Finishing and delivery

To verify that the products meet the customer's specific requirements, we subject the products to rigorous quality control after the casting phase. At the end we proceed to shipment to any destination, both in Italy and abroad, guaranteeing compliance with the agreed timetable.
